Varan is the simplest concoction made with daal, usually prepared in Maharashtrian and Konkani homes. Food cannot get any simpler and delicious than this. This is often my go to dinner after a vacation and when I am craving for home made food.
Ingredients
Toordal or Masoor dal - 1cup
Asafoetida - 1/8 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Wash daal and pressure cook along with all the other ingredients until done. Mash the dal to a creamy consistency if there are any lumps.
Serve hot with rice and ghee.
